Insurance and Relationship Therapy
Because insurance plans very rarely cover relationship therapy, I'm typically not able to accept insurance for these sessions.
Family or relationship therapy is covered by insurance only when the therapy is for the express purpose of addressing the mental health diagnosis of an identified patient within the relationship. Most clients seek relationship therapy for more complex, mutual dynamics within the relationship structure; these reasons are valid and important ones to seek therapy, but are often unrecognized as such by insurance. Because of these insurance limitations, please anticipate that relationship therapy won't be covered by CareFirst and will need to be an out-of-pocket service.
You have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the No Surprises Act, healthcare providers need to give patients who don't have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. This Good Faith Estimate shows the costs of items and services that are reasonably expected for your healthcare needs for an item or service. This estimate is based on information known at the time the estimate was created.
Clients not using insurance will receive a Good Faith Estimate before their initial scheduled appointment. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
